Equipment List
1 x SOUND DEVICES 702T CF Recorder
Uses compact flash to
record standard or high definition sound with no moving parts. Two
channel with Ambient timecode via 5-pin Lemo. Using external Hawk-Woods
power distribution keeps this unit going for a long production day. On-board M/S matrixer to enable monitoring as Left/Right.
1 x Audio Technica BP4029 M/S Stereo Mic
This short shotgun mic delivers Mid and Side channels that can be matrixed to produce stereo production sound. Don't want stereo? Throw away the Side (right) channel and keep the Mid (left) channel for a traditional mono recording. Recording M/S stereo production sound has its challenges (keeping the stereo image in line with what the camera "sees") however the results can give the production sound a more realistic and natural audio.
1 x OKTAVA MK012
1 x OKTAVA MC012 ASM IMPORT
A fantastic value Russian made mic that is generally well regarded. Three interchangeable capsules provide omnidirectional, cardioid, and hypercardioid pick-up patterns. Great for interior booming and plants. (The MC012 I have is not the Chinese knock-off but rather a pre-2002 licensed import)
1 x SENNHEISER MKH815T
1 x SENNHEISER MKH805T
Highly directional 21” mics. Their tight lobar pick-up can help reject unwanted noise and pull forward what you really want to be hearing. It’s unforgiving directional pattern means this mic will always need to be cued in anything but a single. Best used outside and aimed with pinpoint precision. Full Rycote and high wind cover. The 805T sounds thinner/brighter than the 815T.
1 x RYCOTE BABY BALL GAG & WINDJAMMER
Guaranteed to raise eyebrows, and that’s just the name of this windshield. Protect mic capsules from light wind and boom motion related turbulence (MK012/MC10).
1 x FULL RYCOTE ZEPPELIN & DOUGAL
Effectively reduces wind noise in all but the highest of gale-force conditions. Short shotgun size.
BEYER FISHPOLE
It’s long, around 6 metres fully extended.
H&M FISHPOLE
Much like the Beyer, but with many more battle scars.
BPOLE FISHPOLE
A shorter, light, ENG style fishpole great for booming in more constricted places where long reach just gets in the way (like in somebody’s house which isn’t actually on a soundstage).
RYCOTE PISTOL-GRIPS AND SOFTIES
Primarily for hand-held and plant situations, secondary booming, if required.
VARIOUS MIC STANDS
They don’t complain and they don’t get tired from holding the mic in a single position.
SENNHEISER HD-25 HEADPHONES
Highly sensitive low-resistance headphones requiring less drive which means more battery life for the monitor device. The design ensures the cans press lightly on your lug-holes ensuring great isolation from outside noise.
PANASONIC HTX7E HEADPHONES
Sensitive low-resistance
headphones requiring less drive which means more
battery life for the monitor device. These cans are comfortable, light and robust with isolation approaching that of the HD-25.
APPLE “IPOD HI FI”
This all-digital unit is highly compact and portable, but packs enough punch to fill in for playback duty on music video shoots where a dedicated PA is not available or perhaps not practical. With minijack and minitoslink (and even iPod dock) input it can be hooked into a number of devices holding the source audio. Requires six “D” type fat batteries, with reduced amplitude as battery life decreases. Works best on mains power.
DRY-WIPE WHITEBOARD SLATE
There are many advantages (and yes, some disadvantages) to using the double-system on a low-budget shoot. Here if your clapper/loader needs it, this slate is smaller than normal size.
SOUND EFFECTS LIBRARY
To save time, your production could make use of my extensive royalty-free effects library.
APPLE MACBOOK
For transferring rushes to CD/DVD and the hub of my sound design work.
A SLEEPING BAG
I don’t always expect to be put up in a posh hotel.
